Three Spellbinding Halloween Cocktails

Brewing up a batch of creepy Halloween cocktails is a fun way to get any spooky soiree started.  These tasty concoctions are a fun way to get guests in the party spirit.

The drinks that made it onto my favorites list below are all delicious, and easy to prepare showstoppers.  Gather around the bar, and drink up.

Screwed-Up Screwdriver

I found this gorgeous screwdriver recipe on MarthaStewart.com ages ago, and it’s been a party staple at my house ever since.  The star ingredient is Blavod Vodka.  If you can’t find it, create your own black vodka using equal parts of red, blue and yellow food coloring mixed into a 750 ml bottle of your favorite unflavored vodka.

Fill half a glass with pulp-free orange juice and ice.  Then slowly pour an equal amount of Blavod over the back of a spoon to float it on top.  I find it works best if you slightly tilt the glass while pouring.

To highlight the effect, I serve it in a stemless champagne glass.  Also, I suggest having a few cocktail stirrers on hand for guests.  It’s potent, and after the “oohs and aahs” have subsided, guests usually want to mix it before drinking.

Karamel Apple Martini

Karamel Apple Martini

A few years ago, my sister-in-law discovered Stoli’s® Salted Karamel vodka, and it was love at first sip.  There are lots of delicious serving suggestions on their website, but we keep it simple.

Mix equal parts Stoli and apple cider, shake over ice, and serve in a martini glass.  Easy peasy, but it is a frequently requested party favorite.

Since my Halloween guests often end up outside huddled around the fire pit, it can also be served as a warm drink in coffee mugs to help chase away winter chills.

Voodoo Juice

Voodoo Juice

The final Halloween-cocktail on this year’s list was inspired by a drink I was introduced to during a Halloween weekend in New Orleans.  This blue beauty, served at the legendary Royal House Oyster Bar, is aptly named Voodoo Juice.  According to their website, it contains Malibu Black Rum, Banana Liqueur, Blue Curacao, pineapple and orange juice, and sweet and sour mix.

Because of the quantity of alcohol, I reserve this brew for larger crowds of ghosts and ghouls. Mix a bottle of each spirit/liqueur and one and a half quarts each of orange and pineapple juice in a large drink dispenser.  Honestly, the last two times I’ve made it, I forgot to add the sweet and sour mix.  Now, I just omit it on purpose.

It is best served over lots of ice, and guaranteed to cast a spell on you and your guests.

I hope these three recipes inspire you to whip up a batch of spooky Halloween cocktails for your next party, Zoom happy hour or to enjoy while binge watching your favorite scary movies this season.  Enjoy.
