Raven’s Remedy Red Wine Sangria

A pitcher and glass of my Raven's Remedy Red Wine Sangria with some grapes, apple slices and a fig.

One of my favorite fall traditions is creating or discovering new spooky Halloween-inspired cocktails or concoctions. After passing out Halloween treats to the ghosts and goblins that visit my lair, I like to settle in for the night with an adult beverage. My Raven’s Remedy Red Wine Sangria is the perfect choice for post Trick-or-Treating, a Halloween party, or just casual sipping over a long, fall weekend.

For years, my favorite sangria recipe has been a winter sangria made with white wine, oranges, a lemon, lime, and a cup of brandy. It is delicious and is always a hit at parties or gatherings.  It’s curious though this has been my go-to sangria for years since I almost always drink red wine.

This year, I decided to modify my winter sangria into a fall sangria using red wine and dark fruits to evoke the spirit of Halloween. The recipe only takes minutes to prepare and couldn’t be simpler.

Raven’s Remedy Red Wine Sangria Ingredients

  • One 750 ml bottle of your favorite red wine
  • 1 cup of apple brandy
  • 2 cups of red grapes
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 4 figs sliced in half
  • 1 small red apple

Directions

The wine I used was Arabella Cabernet Sauvignon, which is my current favorite.  If I was making a large quantity, or making this recipe for a party, I would go with something lighter and a bit sweeter like a red wine blend.

Four glass bowls with blackberries, sliced figs, apple slices and red grapes.

Wash all the fruit thoroughly. Cut one cup of the grapes in half and set aside. Slice the apple in half and place cut side down on a cutting board. Make quarter-inch thick slices. Place the slices on their side and cut out the seeds.

Next, add the sliced grapes and half of the blackberries to a large glass pitcher.  Muddle or crush the fruits using the back of a wooden spoon.

Add the brandy to the pitcher. Because it’s apple season, I opted for apple brandy, but you can use unflavored brandy as well.

Next, add the remaining fruit followed by the wine.  Stir well and refrigerate overnight.

I like to serve my Raven’s Remedy Red Wine Sangria in a glass pitcher so you can see all that delicious, dark fruit.  It’s the perfect fit for skull-motif stemless wine glasses and there’s plenty of room for a few slices of the wine-soaked fruits.
