You can’t begin fall decorating without the season’s favorite flower – chrysanthemums (mums). So, when my bestie Elaine stumbled upon a roadside mum stand off the beaten-path, it was immediately added to the fall trips and attractions list.
Again, Central Pennsylvania provides quick and easy access to a wide variety of local farms and farm stands, within a short driving distance. We love all things fall, and prefer to support local farmers and ag producers whenever possible. So, we piled into the car with my mom for a Labor Day weekend visit.
The Mum Farm is a small local operation in Jonestown, PA. They sell a variety of fall mums, asters, Indian corn, and corn shocks at a roadside stand adjacent to the farm. A few weeks after our visit, later in the season, I discovered that they added more than 40 varieties of pumpkins and gourds for sale.
After snapping pics of the mum field, we were drawn to a table of ornamental corn the staff was prepping for sale. There were so many rich, jewel-toned varieties to ogle. The corn husk on the ear below is as beautiful as the corn itself.
Someone, who shall remain nameless, provides a classic social media moment.
When we finally headed over to the main attraction, we discovered a great selection of traditional fall colors. They also featured a few unusual hues, along with the traditional white, yellow, orange, purple and red varieties. Alongside the potted and hanging plants, they even had a few tri-colored planters available.
The Mum Farm’s prices are insanely low, and the quality is great. I purchased these vibrant orange and purple mums for just $5 each. Check back in about a week for a look at how I ultimately incorporated them into this year’s purple and orange fall porch decor.
On a beautiful autumn day, nothing is better than picking out fresh fall mums and decor directly from the source.
